| Support for local communities in municipalities Doboj Jug, Doboj Istok and Petrovo |

Doboj, June 25, 2010 – The Center for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives advertised a Call for Applications today within the Municipal Development Project, for submitting project proposals from local communities in municipalities Doboj Jug, Doboj Istok and Petrovo.
Each local community can apply with two i.e. maximum three projects. Financial support can be awarded to only one project proposal per local community. The Call is a part of MDP activities directed towards capacity building of local communities necessary for improvement of their work.
95,000 convertible marks (KM) had been allocated in On – budget support fund for financing projects within this Call. Partner municipalities are obliged to co-finance projects with minimum 10 % of their total value.
Within the course of last two years, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has given one million KM of On – budget support for eight MDP partner municipalities.
The deadline for submitting project proposals to the relevant office within municipal administration is July 09, 2010 by 12:00 am.

Doboj, June 17, 2010 – The Executive Director of the Center for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives Snezana Misic and the Deputy Mayor of Doboj Municipality Mladen Micic signed today an Annex to the Agreement which defines co-financing principle of the Project approved within the On - Budget Support of the Municipal Development Project - MDP. The Annex sets conditions for the implementation of the Project “Incentive for Development and Rural Tourism in Doboj Municipality” which is worth over 80,000 convertible marks (KM).
The main goal of the Project is improvement of life in rural areas and creation of preconditions for development of rural tourism in pre - selected micro-destinations in Ozren mountain, in order to make a positive development model for other regions too. The Project will be implemented by the end of 2010, and is focused on stimulating private initiatives but also on construction of new and completion of existing facilities and infrastructure in the targeted area.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is co-financing the project through MDP Initiatives in the amount of 31,000 KM, Doboj Municipality will invest 31,000 KM and third party 20,000.
Since 2002, numerous projects have been implemented through the Municipal Development Project in Doboj municipality and their total value is around 950,000 KM. SDC has donated almost 500,000 KM and Doboj Municipality 450,000 KM.

| The road to EU means significant changes at the level of local self-governance |

Doboj, June 09, 2010 – The process of EU integrations entails significant changes in the way of work of local self governance and needs to be supported by municipal leadership - this was concluded today at the round table in Doboj. Participant at the round table included representatives of eight MDP municipalities, Deputy Director of the Directorate for European integrations (DEI) Mr Nedeljko Maslesa and Director of Prijedor Economic Development Agency (PREDA) Mr Miso Reljic.
Participant emphasized that it was necessary to improve project cycle management skills and to work on establishment of municipal structures for managing development. Local authorities need to be supported by professional organizations and actively establish partnerships with nongovernmental organizations while young people’s capacities need to be strengthened within preparations process for absorption of EU funds. Inter-municipal cooperation is the only way to utilize current and future funds because single municipalities are too small to have stronger impact.
Rich experience of Prijedor Municipality in absorption of pre-accession EU funds was presented by Mr Reljic. According to Mr Reljic, BiH is currently in the learning phase in which actors form public, private and nongovernmental sector strengthen their capacities for absorption of EU funds.
In future activities MDP Initiatives will invest efforts to position the organization as a resource center for promotion of EU integrations and strengthening local capacities for managing development.

| Inter-municipal cooperation needs to be strengthened |

Doboj Jug, May 31, 2010 – Members of the Municipal Development Project’s Steering Committee (SC) concluded at the today’s’ session held in Doboj Jug Municipality that it was necessary to additionally improve inter-municipal cooperation mechanisms, especially related to local economic development in Doboj region. The Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Sarajevo, Mr Thomas Rüegg said the improvement of inter-municipal cooperation was important for the overall development in the region and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) would consider continuation of its support to such an initiative. Related to this, SC members agree to make a study visit of MDP partner municipalities to Development Agency PREDA from Macedonia, in order to learn more about their experiences within local economic development and inter-municipal cooperation.
In the second part of the SC, Mrs Slavica Draskovic and Mr Halil Gutosic, the co-authors of the book “Human Resources Management” presented the basic elements, ideas, goals and aims that were guiding them through the writing process. The book was published with a support of the Center for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives (MDPi). They also expressed their satisfaction with cooperation with MDP partner municipalities and MDPi team.

| MDP Initiatives support digitalization of cadastre in Usora Municipality |

Usora, May 12, 2010 – The Project “Digitalization of selected cadastre plans in Usora Municipality” will be implemented in 2010 within the cooperation between this local community and Municipal Development Project – MDP.
The Annex to the Agreement on cooperation which regulates this project which amounts to 36,000 convertible marks (KM) was signed today in Usora by the Usora Municipality Mayor Mr Ante Cicak and Executive Director of the Centre for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) supports the project with the amount of 16,500 KM, Federal Directorate for Geodesy with17,700 KM and Usora Municipality will provide remaining funds.
From 2004 on, SDC has donated 400,000 KM in Usora municipality through various projects.
