| MDP Initiatives support participation of BiH municipalities at NEXPO Fair 2011 |

Doboj, February 17, 2011 – The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), through the Center for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives has financially supported participation of eight BiH municipalities at the Local Communities Fair NEXPO 2011 which will be held on March 10th and 11th in Sarajevo.
Municipalities Doboj Jug, Maglaj, Modrica, Gracanica, Usora, Petrovac – Drinic, Petrovo and Teslic will take part together with around 100 more municipalities and cities from South East Europe at the Fair “Innovative Communities”. The Fair is organized by the network of local governance association – NALAS which is consisted of 15 national associations with total of almost 4000 local communities. The Fair will take place in sports dome Huan Antonio Samaran – Zetra in Sarajevo. Along with representatives of municipalities and cities at the Fair, development agencies, nongovernmental organizations and business community representatives will have a chance to represent their work.
Concurrently with the Fair, there will be a conference organized by SDC about social inclusion, workshops focused on exchange of experience and an event “Coffee for Mayors” which will provide an opportunity for mayors to establish new contacts.

| Legal framework for citizens’ participation needs to be improved |

Doboj, December 15, 2010 – It is necessary that all relevant stakeholders continue their work on institutionalization of action planning in local communities in order to enhance citizens’ participation in local governance affairs. This was one of the conclusions from the conference “Sustainable citizens participation at the local level” held today in Doboj and organized by the Center for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives. Participants agree that legal framework for citizens participation needs to be improved at higher levels but also within local regulations.
The basic goal of the conference was to identify possibilities for better citizens participation at the local level in BiH based on the analysis of the existing legal framework and successful practices of MDP. Within the formulated goal, two thematic panel discussions were organized – Possibilities for improvement of citizens participation within the legal framework and Modalities for institutionalization of action planning in local communities.
Participants at the conference included representatives of Doboj region municipalities, relevant entity and cantonal institutions, local communities and nongovernmental organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

| Business Info Center opens in Modrica |

Modrica, December 14, 2010 – Business Info Center affiliated to the Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises started its work. The Business Info Center will provide services for all potential investors, offering all relevant information necessary to start a new business in this municipality.
All interested parties can use a web page www.invest-in-modrica.org which contains data necessary to potential investors.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has provided 10,000 BAM for opening of the Business Info Center through the Municipal Development Project. Modrica Municipality co-financed the project with additional 10,000 BAM.

| How to improve participation of citizens in decision making at local level |

Doboj, December 03, 2010 – The Center for Management, Development and Planning – MDP Initiatives will organize a conference on December 15, 2010 in Doboj on following topic “Sustainable Citizen Participation at Local Level”.
The general goal of the conference is to identify possibilities for better citizen participation in decision making at local level based on the analysis of the existing legal framework and successful practices of the Municipal Development Project – MDP.
Two panel discussions will be organized during the conference – Possibilities for improvements in legal framework for citizens’ participation and Modalities for institutionalization of action planning in local communities.
Participants at the conference will include representatives of Doboj region municipalities, relevant entity and cantonal institutions as well as representatives of local communities and nongovernmental organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

| New face of Municipal One Stop Shop in Doboj Jug |

Doboj Jug, November 29, 2010 – Newly reconstructed municipal One Stop Shop (OSS) for providing administrative services to citizens was opened today in Doboj Jug. The OSS will enable easier access and improved service provision for citizens of Doboj Jug. The total value of this investment is 60,000 convertible marks (KM). The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has provided 40,000 KM through Municipal Development Project (MDP).
Doboj Jug Mayor Mr Dzavid Alicic handed an Honorary Placket to the Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Mr Thomas Ruegg for all support to the municipality that had been provided by SDC.
Mr Ruegg said “Reconstruction and modernization of OSS in Doboj Jug is a very important project as it improves cooperation and communication between administration and citizens”. Mayor Alicic stressed that almost 890,000 KM was invested though joint projects between MDP and Municipality since 2001. Total contribution of SDC in Doboj Jug amounts to 407,000 KM.
