DOBOJ SOUTH

Doboj Jug municipality is situated in the North part of Zenica-Doboj Canton. The entire territory of present day Doboj Jug municipality is spreading on the cross entity line and is partially bordering Republika Srpska territory, covering ex parts of Doboj municipality. Doboj Jug was officially pronounced a Municipality on 31/03/1998. Before the war, this territory was a constituent part of Doboj municipality.
The area is mostly rural and consists of two villages (Local communities Matuzici and Mravici) whose economy is primarily based on agricultural production, small and middle enterprises, small shops and restaurants.

Some of the advantages of the municipality and factors defining its future development are originating in its specific geographic position: delta Usora-Bosna, two busy motor roads, M4 Teslic-Tuzla nad M17 Doboj-Sarajevo, their crossing point at Karausa and proximity to Doboj municipality.

The municipality population is growing continuously which is in turn triggering the development of the market.
Doboj Jug municipality is faced with similar problems and obstacles as other small newly formed municipalities are, like lack of “tradition” (experience) in local governance, destroyed or undeveloped infrastructure (roads, water supply and sewage networks, industrial areas, unemployment, small budget, frequent floods and lack of urban facilities (sport terrains, kindergartens, traffic signs, traffic lights, etc).

The main developmental potential is agriculture, especially if the approach to organize agricultural production is applied.
Private sector is growing, especially shops and restaurant due to proximity of motor ways.
There are 720 employed people for whom benefits are being paid (general indicators).

According to the last statistic data (31/05/2005) there were 999 unemployed persons in the municipality.
The most important economic force is a company for building and maintenance of roads “Doboj putevi” Doboj Jug, which is employing around 220 people.
Doboj Jug has two local communities and one registry office placed in the municipality building.

The number of associations is approximate to the municipality’s size. There are 15 registered associations. There is one youth organization, association of private entrepreneurs, agricultural association, association of paraplegics, eco section within the primary school, war veterans organization, association of fishermen, humanitarian associations “Merhamet” and “Red Cross”, religious associations, cultural associations and women associations is currently being formed. There are also sports clubs and the most prominent are the chess club and private football school “BH Barsa”.
